Seal Of God

August 29, 2010

Is the Sabbath the Seal of God?

I understand the reasoning in the belief that the Sabbath is the seal of God. But I have to disagree for several reasons.       In my study of scripture compared to what is being taught. There are 4 major pieces of scripture missing from the teachings.

The teachings only bring Scripture from one book of the New Testament and that is in Revelation’s.
       But there is scripture that clearly talks about the seal in other books of the New Testament.

1. John 6:27 “Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.”

This got me really thinking and praying about the teaching of the Sabbath being the seal. Why would the Lord of the Sabbath need to be sealed with the Sabbath?

2. Ephesians 1:13-14 “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who* is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.”
* NU-Text reads which

3. Ephesians 4:30 “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”

4. 2 Corinthians 1:21-22 “Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.”

With questions still on my heart (after my search) I was then impressed to search the encyclopedia about seals. Did they all have three things found on them as the teachings proclaim?

And this is what I found
       ” In ancient Greece and Rome, seal rings and portrait seals, incised with the owner’s likeness, became widespread. After the fall of Rome the use of seals declined, but was revived in the 12th century. From then until the 18th century, heads of church and state and various civic dignitaries employed seals carved with heraldic designs to stamp their documents.” “Seal (art),” Microsoft® Encarta® 98 Encyclopedia. © 1993-1997 Microsoft Corporation. So during John’s time, seals had the image of the ruler on it.

Then I started to pray about all that I have discovered and this is what was revealed to me

The Seal of God is His image and we are seal with His Image by the Holy Spirit. We take on the likeness of Jesus who was sealed by His Father with His (Father’s) likeness. (The Fruit of the Spirit)
