The Sins Of The Parent Falls Upon The Children

July 18, 2012

When we rebel against God it not only ourselves we are hurting but our children.. For we are to know the difference between what is right and what is wrong..

Then why are we surprised when our children disobey us and rebel against authority.. When we do not have self discipline and obedience to the Will of the Lord for our lives and heed His voice, our children are watch us as we become disobedient to our Heavenly Father commands..

It is when we learn to listen, obey and to walk accordingly as the Lord commands us that we will be the role models we were meant to be for our children thus we see and watch them change before our eyes as God answers our prayers and set thing right again using our obedience and desire to serve Him to open their hearts to His true Peace..

But we must make the first step and walk out in obedience, trust and faith.. Remember the sins of the parent fall upon the children because children imitate us for we teach them by our walk..

So let us always do our best to listen and obey the Spirit of the Lord for if we expect to have our children listen and honour our request then should we not be listening and honouring Our Heavenly Father as we trust He knows what is best for us..

The son will not bear the punishment for the father’s iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son’s iniquity; the righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself.

Thank you for this piece of scripture from Ezekiel 18.. And I do agree that we will not be punished for the sins of our parents and our parents will not receive our punishment yet this piece does not speak about the punishment being put upon the children but how our walk with the Lord will affect our children’s walk.. If parents give way to Hypocrisy since we continue to hear parents say “Do as I say not as I do” and continue to do what in not right in the sight of the Lord., so will our children..

So why are we surprised when our children walk against the Lord or walk so deeply in the darkness of sin transgressing against others.. Children are what they learn and as we know children are imitator. so if we do not imitate Christ as we are commanded to then how will they learn who Christ is and how to walk righteously early in their lives.. So yes our punishments are our own just as our righteous walk is.. Yet we are the lead sheep for our children so if we go astray so will they.. One thing is that we all have the chance to turn from our ways and walk according to the ways of the Lord as Ezekiel 18 continues

“But if a wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is lawful and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. None of the transgressions which he has committed shall be remembered against him; because of the righteousness which he has done, he shall live. Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?” says the Lord God, “and not that he should turn from his ways and live?

“But when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and does according to all the abominations that the wicked man does, shall he live? All the righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; because of the unfaithfulness of which he is guilty and the sin which he has committed, because of them he shall die.

Yet we cannot forget is that the Word of God does state in Exodus 20

For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

We have seen how alcohol and drugs problems or even forms of abuse go from parent to child even into the 3 or 4 generation, why because the sins of the parents were taught to their children and so on.. So yes our sins can be passed on from generation to generation, Yet we are all accountable for our walk when we hit the age of accountability.. Praise the Lord that we have the Promise that if we turn from our ways and walk in the righteous way of the Lord then our sins are no longer held against us..

Again thank you for quoting Ezekiel for this is a great chapter speaking about how we are forgiven when we walk accordingly.. God bless you..
